BRAVE ONE: The story behind the t-shirt

Let’s talk about being BRAVE.  Do you ever feel like you cannot go forward and then you wake up the next day, and then the next?  You pushed on.  You forged ahead. You proved yourself wrong in the best possible way.  YOU ARE BRAVE.  You did it, you are GOING to do it, and you are AWESOME!

Facing adversities can make you feel defeated, but the smallest of victories can lead to the greatest successes. Give yourself credit for the days you did the small things that got you to your next day. And celebrate the days those small things lead to big things.

I created the BRAVE ONE shirt as a badge of honor.  Big or small victories deserve to be celebrated.  Wear this shirt to remind yourself of all that you are.  You have done much to get to this point, and you have limitless potential!  Live bold.  Be BRAVE.

EMBRACE EMPOWER: The story behind the t-shirt

Embrace Empower.  Heavy words on their own, powerful together.

Embrace who you are: The amazing, the good and the imperfections. Embrace the less than perfect life. Embrace the JOY of life. Embrace GRATITUDE.

Accepting who you are will EMPOWER yourself to push forward, to overcome.  It may just INSPIRE others to feel empowered themselves and spread positive energy.

I created the Embrace Empower shirt from my own embracing of who I am.  It’s been a journey, and it’s never going to be completed. I am continuing to be the best me and learn to let go of the things that no longer serve me.  I embraced who I am, and it was empowering!  I hope this shirt can be a reminder for you to do the same.

STRONG BEAUTIFUL WOMAN: The story behind the t-shirt

I have shared my inspiration for creating the Strong Beautiful Woman shirt before, but being the first shirt in the line and the forerunner of spreading the Strong Beautiful Woman’s Movement, it bears repeating at a little deeper level.

After doing makeup on many women over the years, I have been so honored and grateful to be a part of special days, events and moments.  Women are powerhouses.  It’s amazing all that we accomplish even on the days when we feel like we have no motivation or lack self-confidence.   Imagine all we could do if we KNEW we were POWERHOUSES!

I know these feelings because I am that woman.  I suffered, and am recovering, as a self-critic with depression and anxiety.  So when women are hesitant for me to see them without makeup or are self-conscious of imperfections, I feel their pain.  Deeply.  So much more than I could express.  I often leave makeup jobs and spend my drive home wondering if I could have done or said more to help that women feel even more AMAZING!

I am inspired by these women.  The Strong Beautiful Woman shirt was not created to be boastful, or conceded.  It was created to INSPIRE and spread a positive message.

I have been told before by a woman that she “wouldn’t wear that shirt because I don’t feel worthy of the message.”  I was floored.  I never wanted someone to feel they COULD NOT wear this shirt because they were not “up to par” to the message.  I replied that this shirt is not about that.  I said, “You put on that shirt and OWN IT! Fake it until you make it. You will come around. You already ARE that women.  It’s time for you to realize it.”

Some days when I wear my shirt I don’t feel like I am strong. Or beautiful.  I call them OVERCOMPENSATION days.  The days where you need a pick me up or a boost.  The days where putting on the shirt makes you walk a little taller and remind yourself that you ARE Strong, Beautiful and Feminine.  You are SO MUCH MORE than you even know you can be!

I continue to share stories of these women because it is so important to empower one another!

T-shirt Tuesday! Kate O’Neill

InstaSize_0418165500

I’ve known Kate for as long as we have been cousins- my entire life.  I am so grateful she moved to Arizona from Michigan so we can spend more time together and celebrate life’s milestones. All the laughs and good times are a great reminder of the importance of family.

Kate’s passion for a strong sense of community is inspiring.  We can all learn more about how to give back and support the local areas we live.

A little about Kate:

Why is this your favorite t-shirt?:  This is my favorite t-shirt because I love David Bowie. It’s not even authentic. I got it a Target, which is kind of sacrilege, but it was Bowie so I couldn’t help myself. It has a growing number holes, so it has recently become my favorite workout shirt.

Tell me a little about yourself:  Listening to Bowie and channeling him while working out is so empowering. It allows me to embrace my creativity and rebellious nature. It also reminds me to not let myself to get pigeonholed in one profession, one discipline, or one way of thinking, which is essential when you work in systems change and community health.

T-shirt Tuesday kickoff! Stephanie

Happy #TshirtTuesday! I am so excited to kickoff a series I have been working hard on!  The idea is to showcase strong, beautiful women with the common thread of all having a favorite t-shirt.
When I started this project I had no idea the impact it would have on me.  These women are inspirational, which I knew, but their honesty and insight has forever changed my life. We all have our own stories and I look forward to sharing these in the coming weeks.

About Me:
I love this t-shirt because it represents pushing yourself, being your own cheerleader and being optimistic. Inspired by @rachelplatten song “Fight Song”, it reminds to fight for what I want and to believe.

I have been doing makeup for over 12 years and love it! The style of makeup I do is “kicked up natural”- beautiful, enhancing features.
